Project: Area Light
Drawings, models and sculptures.
In my stone sculptures, there was a hole that allowed me to release the workpiece material and replace it with light.
I found these sculptures very flat and geometric and I wanted to look for new models. I do suggest new ways in which the dynamic curves and volumes can enter throught dialogue with the concept already used as vacuum.
As a study, I made a series of drawings in Indian ink on white paper. The aim was to represent the empty space and the effects of light to make new sculptures. As I did them, some drawings suggested shapes that I modeled in clay. Moreover, I observed how these forms acquired the value of potential sculptures and they served as working models.
Two of these models have already been made in wood. The Hug is the first and Interior the second. However, by the complexity of these pieces and because they required many hours to make, I kept this collection of models as comissions.
