Islands is a project I started working on when I drew a circle with a marker and painted it with blue pencil .I made different variations of this circle until I defined a new way to make a wooden sculpture , which I later called island.
I followed the thread of this idea and I decided to travel to an island to develop this theme .
I prepared the trip: time, place to live, workshop , equipment, tools … And everything was very easy. Menorca , the island, and my friends, they provided everything I needed .
On arrival I started drawing , molding, carving … going on trips , swimming in the sea. And every time more ideas keep coming .
The Island’s wood sculptures, are very simple, defined contours, alternating curves and concavities. These cavities give the name of each island : Sea Island, Cave Island, Cove Island , Wave Island and Viewpoin tIsland. The islands are separate pieces that support in a kind of foot- base integrated in the shape. This evidence that the piece is more isolated, because there is no connection to the surrounding space .
The material I used is mahogany wood, esaly cutting, and when polishing its grainis show lines that allow us to make a second view of the piece.
Women – Island , Indian ink drawings, belong to a direct expression of personal experiences during my stay on the island . The trip , dreams , nights, getting into a pace of calm and carefree , play and laughter . The technique I use is very intuitive and direct, and images appearing with increasing definition and some realism .
